About Patrick Madden
I am a sole proprietor small business owner based in the community I was raised in, recently returned after 40 years away - proudly not Private Equity owned - and retail a unique selection of yarns for hand knitting, weaving, crochet and machine knitting. I don't stock yarns sold at large chain stores, I do not carry products for the craft market nor yarn brands now owned by private equity companies, which have devastated the North American retail landscape.
My current inventory included yarns from from brands Prism, Blue Heron, Sesia, Koigu, Cardiff Cashmere, Rico Designs and Lana Grossa. I appreciate your support of my small business and I invite you to explore all my Signature Yarns product pages.

How It All Began
Signature Yarns was born from a love of texture, colour, and making instilled in me at an early age by mother Genevieve, proprietor of Gen's Sewing & Yarn Craft Emporium, the Huron County Canada small business she operated for 21 years with locations in Goderich and Exeter Ontario.

My mother retailed fabric, yarn, notions and was an authorized Singer Sewing Machine dealer, offering the full line of domestic sewing machines, cabinets, vacuum cleaners and home knitting machines. Working at the store growing up greatly influenced my love of fashion, textiles, and most especially knitting, both by hand and on a home knitting machine.

Signature Yarns - 11 years in business and counting!
In the fall of 2014 I launched Signature Yarns and have steadily grown my business, selling yarn exclusively online and at regional yarn shows throughout Ontario. As my mother's 10th child (she gave birth to 11 children) it was a day I will never forget to have my mother Genevieve pictured with me below (pictured with sisters Susan and Barbara) attend the 2014 KW Knitter's Fair in Kitchener, Ontario as I launched Signature Yarns. The only child of her's to follow in her footsteps pursuing a career as a small business owner in textiles.

I am now based in the town of Goderich, Ontario and look forward to the next stage as I grow and evolve my business plan. I must admit the hiatus I took during the COVID Pandemic years took its toll but I have returned with a gusto to rebuilding my brand, developing new kits and introducing new yarn bases to my mix. So please share my website with your friends and knitting community. Your patronage is appreciated very much.

For enthusiasts of Superba knitting machines made in France I am the author of the original Superba Knitting Blog started in 2005 and now hosted here on my website with new and updated content coming soon.

Thank you for stopping by and enjoy shopping my website. I am a one person operation and I put a lot of work into the layout and content on Signature Yarns.
